2008 Porsche Cayenne - Dreaming of the Best SUV

Well there is no doubt that I don’t personally have the budget to afford a Porsche Cayenne, but I have the vision of owning one. Now, in saying that, I fully understand that the cost of maintenance on any Porsche is high, and I will be in for some big bills whenever I need to remove and replace parts. For instance, a new wheel for the Cayenne sells at retail for over $500. That’s over $2000 to replace all wheels. Ouch. Let’s face it, if you have to worry about the cost of parts on a Porsche, you can’t afford it.
Now, on with some of the features of the Porsche Cayenne. The 2008 Cayenne is arguably the best SUV on the planet, and I’ll try to elaborate on the features. The first Cayenne’s (2004 etc) had some issues for sure. The transmissions on the early Cayenne’s were a problem because they were sluggish in the way they functioned. This has been rectified on the 2008 Cayenne’s.
The braking is exceptional as will all Porsche’s, and the power-plant (engine) is amazing as well. The turning radius is excellent as well now too. Here is a video review of the 2008 Porsche Cayenne (turbo) by the way.
Here is a little note on the positive qualities of the Porsche Cayenne (turbo):
“The 2008 Porsche Cayenne Turbo’s twin turbo V-8 delivers staggering performance for an SUV. Its dynamic chassis control and stability management systems enable the car to be optimized for road, track, or trail driving.”
Here is a little note on the negative qualities of the Porsche Cayenne (turbo):
“For a car with a six figure cost, the Cayenne Turbo’s cabin technology is out of date and the phone system in particular is disastrously badly engineered. Some of the options are so expensive, and the value is just not there.”
I’ve seen a few video reviews of the Cayenne (turbo) and read many reviews online. The common thread with all of these reviews is pretty obvious. If you are a real gadget freak, then the Cayenne has an interior will not be pleasing. If you don’t really care about the interior gadgets and options, and you want the performance characteristics of a Porsche wrapped up in an SUV, then you’ll love the Cayenne.
The most important issue with the Cayenne is this (in my mind): you need to have a big budget in order to own a Cayenne considering the negatives of an out-dated interior package. Yes, the Cayenne turbo is a high performance SUV that is a superior ride, and if you don’t mind spending over $100,000 for a that luxury then it’s worth it.
However, if the Porsche Cayenne is something you can barely afford, and it’s your one dream vehicle that is perfect in every way, you should not buy one. In this price range you can find many different sports utility vehicles that are very close to perfect (such as the recent Mercedes and Lincoln models) and still save some money.
