Segway Pt Upright Scooters
The Segway personal upright scooter is one of the coolest new transportation revolutions to come to fruition. The inset picture (click to enlarge) is taken of the Segway PT (Personal Transporter) seen in an urban enviroment. However, there are many models to choose from. You can see the Segway scooters on campuses across the United States, Canada, Central America, South America, Africa, Caribbean, Europe, Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Asia.
As you can see, there isn’t much to the Segway scooters in size (they weigh in at 70-90 pounds, and the handle bars only come up to the average rider’s belly button. The Segway PT maintains it’s balance automatically by using a mounted motor and computer hardware. It’s powered by electricity – to be more specific, battery power.
The appearance of the Segway is not the only factor that makes it unique. What truly makes it unique is the way you control it and maneover it. You simply lean back to go backwards, and lean forward to go forwards. To turn right or left you turn the handlebars. You can easily spin around in circles if you want. The first Segway’s to come out (the HT [human transporter]) was steered using the handlebar grips. Left grip twisted and you went left.
Segway PTs are powered electric motors and can accelerate up 13 miles an hour. They use gyros (most commonly used on Aircraft for navigation) via a “vibrating structure gyroscope”. The spinning gyros can detect any kind of movement up or down, and makes automatic adjustments to maintain adequate balance.
Dean Kamen invented the Seqway, and introduced it in late 1994. It is produced by Segway Incorporated, based in New Hampshire, United States. Below we have more information.
